Two years after the launch of the CE 04, BMW Motorrad presents the CE 02, a new electric vehicle designed for inner cities. Thanks to its electric propulsion, modern design and innovative solutions, the CE 02 promotes new mobility, capable of offering great driving fun in an urban environment.
Neither e-scooter nor e-motorbike, BMW Motorrad defines a new concept for its new CE 02: that of eParkourer for cities and urban areas.
BMW CE 02: the design
The new BMW CE 02 represents a new gateway to the world of two wheels offered by BMW Motorrad. It's electric, it's aimed primarily at young people and it's neither an e-motorbike nor an e-scooter. It's an eParkourer, created for the city and the urban environment. Agile, practical, robust and reduced to the essentials in terms of design. The large wheels guarantee solidity and at the same time driving fun on many terrains. Black is the base color for the frame, wheels, front fender and handlebar clamp fairing, while matte granite gray metallic is applied to the engine cover. In the special Highline version, the new CE 02 presents itself with an extroverted and colorful appearance. The gold anodized forks and the "ribbon" design in combination with the Petrol color make the CE 02 particularly futuristic.
In terms of structure, the new BMW CE 02 relies on a rigid double-ring frame made of tubular steel. At the front there are telescopic forks with hydraulic damping, while at the rear there is a single-sided swingarm and a direct-pivot shock absorber. The wide tires are mounted on cast light-alloy wheels in solid disc design, while the disc brakes ensure confident deceleration front and rear. BMW Motorrad ABS operates at the front.
BMW CE 02: performance
The CE 02 can also be ridden by those entering the world of 2 wheels at the age of 16, thanks to a maximum power of 11 kW (15 HP). In the 4 kW (5 HP) version (rated power 3,2 kW (4 HP)) limited to 45 km/h, the new CE 02 also fulfills the requirements of the AM driving license and can be driven in Italy, for example, at from the age of 14 and from those in possession of a car licence. The regulations, of course, vary from country to country. The powerful engine allows the new CE 02 in the 11 kW version to accelerate quickly at traffic lights and offers a dynamic and fun driving experience. With a top speed of 95 km/h, the vehicle is fast even on fast roads, while the range of over 90 km (for the 11 kW version according to WMTC) allows you to tackle long city adventures. Thanks to the low weight of only 132 kg (11 kW version) or 119 kg (4 kW version) and the low seat height of only 750 mm, the new CE 02 also scores with its handling characteristics.
The new CE 02 is equipped as standard with the "Flow" and "Surf" driving modes. 'Flow' mode offers the optimum trim for navigating city traffic, while 'Surf' mode offers a dynamic driving experience beyond city traffic. The sporty riding mode “Flash” is also optionally available as part of the HIGHLINE optional equipment and as an Original BMW Motorrad Accessory.
The new BMW CE 02 is equipped as standard with an external charger with a charging power of 0,9 kW, which enables charging processes to be carried out quickly and conveniently at standard household sockets. Charging is even faster with the quick charger with an output of 1,5 kW, available in the optional equipment Highline and as an Original BMW Motorrad Accessory (only for the 11 kW version).
BMW CE 02: display and connectivity
On the dashboard, an easy-to-read TFT display informs the driver about driving speed, battery charge status and much more. A USB-C charging socket also allows you to power a smartphone. Using the BMW Motorrad Connected app, the smartphone will be able to show the charging times thanks to the connection via Bluetooth, as on the BMW CE 04. In the Highline variant, the cradle mode allows safe use of the BMW Motorrad app in the smartphone (held in a smartphone holder) which serves as an additional display using the keyboard on the handlebar. You can also log trips using the app. With the BMW Motorrad Connected Services (also included in the Highline package) the charging status and other information on the CE 02 vehicle can be viewed at any time and from anywhere via the app.
