Double victory for the Felo Gresini team MotoE in Assen with Matteo Ferrari who conquered important points and made up the gap from Torres in the general standings.

The Felo Gresini MotoE Team closes the first part of the season in the best possible way, with Matteo Ferrari as the undisputed king of the 2023 Dutch GP in Assen. The number #11 rider started from the second spot on the grid to then close both races at the top of the standings, the first with a gap of six tenths ahead of Torres, the second with 78 thousandths again on Torres. After the Dutch GP, Ferrari is now in second position in the MotoE World Championship, just eight points from the top, to fight for the 2023 title in the second part of the season, which will resume at Silverstone after the summer break.

“I'm really very happy - said Matteo Ferrari after the Assen races - we worked a lot during the winter. I had never won outside of Italy in the previous four years, but this year we changed the momentum and I would like to thank the team because they did a great job, they always believed in me and I think this year they made another step forward to allow me to be here, on top of the podium twice. Both races were good: we didn’t set any lap record or pole position, but I prefer a weekend like this one, with two wins. Torres was always up there with us so we closed the gap and we’ll battle until the end. There are still four rounds and eight races left, so we need to stay focused, and we’ll see how we go at Silverstone!”

The standings of the 2023 championship

In this first half of the 2023 season of the MotoE World Championship, Ferrari was the rider who showed the highest potential, even more than Torres, who leads the standings with 144 points. Torres proved to be better at achieving the most of all the opportunities he had, something Ferrari was unable to do on a couple of occasions: in Race 1 at Le Mans and at the Sachsenring.
In the first race of the season, in France, Ferrari had no opponents but crashed when he could have managed the race and won by a good margin. At Sachsenring however, bad management in qualifying forced him to start tenth in both races, leaving Torres with precious points.
The value of Matteo Ferrari in MotoE 2023 was seen in Race 2 at Le Mans, at Mugello and above all at Assen; on all these occasions, Ferrari showed his real advantage over his rivals: the excellent tire management which allows him to have a faster pace than all the other riders in the second half of the race.

In this regard, at the beginning of the season, Ferrari had said: “We have really seen that our working method works and gives good results. In testing we focused on performance throughout the life of the tyres; in fact, in the race we saw that our advantage over our rivals was greater with worn tyres.
We adopted a strategy not to stress the tires too much in the first laps in order to have a good performance throughout the race. The bike is very fast and wears out the tires a lot, you have to be good at managing them. Having the margin over your opponents at the end of the race is worth double compared to the first laps".

The next round of the 2023 MotoE World Championship will be in England, at Silverstone, from 4 to 5 August.
