The first ever season of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup concludes this weekend with a wide-open battle to decide the inaugural champion in the final two races at Valencia. Victories so far for Matteo Ferrari, Niki Tuuli and Mike di Meglio, combined with the consistency of riders like Héctor Garzó and Bradley Smith, mean that up to twelve riders can still lay claim to the title at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. Ferrari, winner of the two races in San Marino, currently leads Garzó by 19 points, whilst a win for Smith, Di Meglio or Xavi Simeón would haul them back into contention. The first race will take place on Saturday at 16.15pm, with the final race of the season set for Sunday at 10.05am.
The Openbank Ángel Nieto Team will be on home soil for the final round of the first ever FIM Enel MotoE World Cup and they go into the double-header weekend with high hopes. María Herrera scored a strong fifth place in the most recent round at Misano and she and her teammate Nico Terol established a good feeling in the test they enjoyed here last June (here their performance). Terol, who lies eleventh in the championship, will be racing at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit for the first time since 2014. It is not only a home race for the Valencia-born rider, but he was also crowned 125cc World Champion at this circuit in 2011 and registered his last Grand Prix win there in 2013. Like his teammate Herrera, Terol is targeting strong results this weekend and a place in the final championship top ten. Herrera is currently two points behind Terol in thirteenth place, three points off the top ten, and has her sights set on the podium.

“I am really excited to be back racing at Valencia, where I was crowned 125cc World Champion and won a race in Moto2. We have plenty of potential to be at the front and now we have the opportunity to do it at home, in front of our fans and sponsors, with two races. I have been able to prepare well for Valencia and I am very motivated to finish the season in a good way, although we clearly have some very strong rivals. I want our potential and the team’s hard work to shine this weekend so I will leave it all out there to fight for the front positions and make sure I get off the bike with a smile.”

“I am looking forward to the weekend at Valencia because we have such a good base to start from in the first session. The test we had here in June went well and the last round needs to follow the same dynamic. We were constantly up in the top positions and I left there feeling confident. Now we have two home races ahead to finish the season well. I would like to do it with a podium and that’s what we will be fighting for.”
