First win in MotoE for Lukas Tulovic and the Tech3 E-Racing team; the German rider wins the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring ahead of Eric Granado and Dominique Aegerter. Alessandro Zaccone keeps the leadership of the championship with two races to go.
Lukas Tulovic started for the third time in second position on the starting grid and finally gets the victory for him and the Tech3 team, the first in MotoE. After a awesome comeback, Eric Granado (One Energy Racing) takes an all-important second position after a thrilling fight with Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Fermin Aldeguer (Openbank Aspar Team).
The race started with almost dry asphalt but damp in some zones; for this reason, the race was declared wet and the distance was reduced to five laps. All the riders lined up on the grid with dry tires.
At the green light Fermin Aldeguer made a good start from the first position on the grid but was immediately overtaked at the first corner by Lukas Tulovic who took the lead; behind them Hikari Okubo and Matteo Ferrari.
During the first lap Tulovic takes advantage of the fight behind him between Okubo, Aldeguer and Ferrari. Tulovic manages to make perfect trajectories and at the end of the first lap he reaches the advantage of 1.8 seconds on the group that follows him which is now led by Cardelus and also includes Zaccone and Aegerter. Jordi Torres, on the other hand, remains in the middle of the group.
While Tulovic increases his advantage and behind him the pursuers overtake each other at every corner, Eric Granado gains six positions in a single lap and joins the group fighting for second place. Dominique Aegerter is also the author of a good comeback from eighth to second position. On the other hand, the one who loses many positions from the start is Matteo Ferrari who, starting from the front row, is eighth at the end of the first lap.
At the end of the second lap, Tulovic's advantage is stable; the German rider continues to exploit the advantage that derives from the great fight that takes place behind him between Zaccone, Cardelus and Aegerter.
The situation changes when the Swiss rider of the Dynavolt Intact GP team takes the lead in the group of pursuers. Thus began the comeback on Tulovic; at the end of the third lap the advantage of the Tech3 team driver dropped to 1.4 seconds.
At this point it is clear to those who are chasing that continuing to overtake is an advantage for Tulovic, so Aegerter, Aldeguer and Granado form a grounp to recover the gap from Tulovic.
The advantage of the German rider drops sector after sector. Alessando Zaccone is unable to maintain contact with the comeback group due to a error during braking at turn three with two laps to go.
At the start of the last lap Tulovic passes the finish line first with a second of advantage. At this point the pursuers understand that the fight for first place is lost and the fight for second place opens up. At the braking at turn three, Aldeguer, Aegerter and Granado arrive paired; Aegerter exits in front but the same situation appens at the next corner and this time it is Granado who exits in front.
The fight between Aegerter and Aldeguer is resolved at turn nine when the Swiss attacks the young Spaniard and passes him without leaving him room for a counterattack.
Meanwhile, Tulovic is a few meters from the finish line where he takes his first victory in MotoE. Behind him: Granado, Aegerter, and Aldeguer. More detached are Okubo, Zaccone, Torres and Ferrari. The two LCR riders close the Top 10: Kevin Zannoni and Miquel Pons.
