MotoE 2023: numbers, curiosities and statistics

MotoE 2023: numbers, curiosities and statistics of the fifth edition of the electric MotoGP championship which recently ended.

The 2023 season of MotoE, the electric series of MotoGP, recently concluded, with the victory of Mattia Casadei ahead of Jordi Torres and Matteo Ferrari. In this post we present the numbers, statistics and curiosities of the fifth edition of MotoE, which began with the French GP in Le Mans and ended after eight rounds and sixteen races, in Misano, on the occasion of the San Marino GP.

The numbers of MotoE 2023

The winner of the MotoE 2023 was Mattia Casadei, with 260 points in 16 races raced. The new world champion achieved five victories, two second positions and three third positions, as well as a pole position. Casadei's pace was 16.25 points per race, in line with the pace of the winners of previous editions of the MotoE, apart from the 2022 season won by Dominique Aegerter. In 2019, Matteo Ferrari won the title by scoring 16.50 points per race, in the following two years Jordi Torres won with 16.29 and 14.29 per race respectively. Last year however, Aegerter won with a record pace of 18.92 points per race.

2023 was characterized by Casadei's comeback in the championship: from 56 points behind Torres after race 1 of the BritishGP to a 43-point advantage at the end of the season.
With the five victories in 2023, Casadei brought the total number of races won in MotoE to seven and now stands behind Granado, the most victorious rider in MotoE with 11 successes, and of Ferrari, with ten victories.
Among the riders participating in the 2023 season, none have achieved a similar number of victories to Granado and Ferrari; Torres, winner of two editions of MotoE, has won only four races so far. Among the riders who have participated in the past MotoE, among the most victorious is Dominique Aegerter, with five successes.
Eight riders have won a race in 2023: Casadei (5), Ferrari (3), Torres (2), Mantovani (2) and one each for Granado, Spinelli, Krummenacher and Garzò.
Speaking of podiums, ten riders, more than half of the MotoE grid, have reached the podium in at least one race: Casadei (10), Ferrari (7), Torres (6) and Garzò (6), Krummenacher (4), Granado (4) and Spinelli (4), Mantovani (3), Manfredi (2) and Zannoni (2).

MotoE 2023: double podiums and double victories

Among the numbers and statistics of MotoE 2023, it is certainly worth mentioning that the riders obtained two podiums in the same round, in race 1 and in race 2; these were:

  • Torres at Le Mans, Sachsenring and Assen
  • Casadei at the Red Bull Ring, in Barcelona and in Misano
  • Ferrari at Mugello and Assen
  • Garzò at Le Mans and Misano
  • Granado at Silverstone
  • Zannoni at the Red Bull Ring
  • Mantovani in Barcelona
  • Spinelli in Misano

Notably, Ferrari and Casadei achieved two victories in the same round: Ferrari in Assen and Casadei in Austria. This year only Ferrari achieved a hat-trick (victory, pole and fastest lap), in the debut race of 2023 at Le Mans.

MotoE 2023: curiosities

Round 1: French GP – – At Le Mans, Matteo Ferrari achieved his first victory outside Italy. The Italian rider's previous victories had been one at Mugello and six at Misano. The Gresini team rider also achieved his hat-trick (victory, pole and fastest lap). In the French GP, Jordi Torres returned to the top step of the podium, giving the Openbank Aspar Team its first victory and first ever podium in MotoE. Torres was not winning in MotoE from the 2021 San Marino GP. In the debut race in MotoE, Krummenacher achieved his first podium of the category.

Round 2: Italian GP – At Mugello, Andrea Mantovani and the RNF team achieved their first ever victory in MotoE. After returning from injury due to a fall in WSBK, Eric Granado and the LCR E-Team achieved their first victory of 2023 with the new Ducati V21L. At Mugello, Casadei reached the podium for the first time in 2023. In the Italian GP, ​​first podium in his career and first of the season also for Kevin Manfredi and the Sic58 Squadra Corse.

Round 3: German GP – At the Sachsenring, Hector Garzò achieved his first victory in MotoE after achieving five podium finishes in three seasons in the MotoGP electric series.

Round 4: Dutch GP – In Assen, Matteo Ferrari achieved the first double victory of 2023. For Torres, however, another double podium arrived in the Netherlands.

Round 5: British GP – At Silverstone, Krummenacher took his first victory in MotoE, finishing first in race 1 in the rain. The first victory of the season also arrived for Casadei in England, the first of a series of five. His teammate, rookie in MotoE, Nicholas Spinelli, achieved the first podium in the electric class of MotoGP.

Round 6: Austrian GP – In Austria, Casadei achieved his first one-two in MotoE, winning both races. The GP at the Red Bull Ring also recorded the first career pole position for Kevin Zannoni and his first podium in the MotoGP electric class.

Round 7: Catalan GP – In Barcelona, ​​Casadei won his fourth race of the season while Andrea Mantovani achieved his second success of the season in MotoE.

Round 8: San Marino GP – Misano was the venue of the MotoE championship victory for Mattia Casadei. The HP Pons Los 40 team rider won race 1 and arrived third in race 2. On the Marco Simoncelli circuit, Nicholas Spinelli, in his rookie year, won its first race in MotoE,

MotoE 2023: the team standings

In 2023, each team had two bikes available, so, for the first time, it is possible to make a team classification for the MotoE. At the end of the championship, the best team was HP Pons Los40; the Spanish team achieved 410 points, six victories, 14 podiums and one pole position. The Pons team did better than the Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE and the Felo Gresini MotoE team.

Sito Pons' team and the Gresini Racing team won both races in at least one round; Gresini in Assen (both races won by Ferrari) while Pons both in Austria (both races won by Casadei) and in Misano (one race won by Casadei and one by Spinelli).
