After the difficult 2024 debut in Portimao, the Felo Gresini team MotoE is heading towards Le Mans, for the 2024 French GP, the second round of the electric world championship. Matteo Ferrari is looking for redemption, after the poor results obtained in the Portuguese Grand Prix, while Alessio Finello will renew his challenge to enter the Top10.
Almost two months after the opening grand prix of the 2024 season, in Portugal, the MotoE World Championship heads to Le Mans for the French GP, the second round of the year.
The long six-week break allowed the two riders of the Felo Gresini MotoE team to train and re-elaborate all the data collected in the first round in Portimao. Both riders will certainly be motivated to find redemption after the below-expected results in Portugal.
Matteo Ferrari's goal is always the same: to obtain the second title in the category and become the MotoE champion again, after the title won in 2019, the debut year of the MotoGP electric class. In recent years, the Gresini team rider has always been close to his second victory in MotoE, always finishing on the final podium of the category, but the title always narrowly eluded him. After good pre-season tests, the Portimao round brought insufficient results in relation to the objective of winning the 2024 championship. For this reason, at Le Mans, Ferrari is called to redeem itself, riding at the levels of last year's French GP, when he won race two despite a long lap penalty. The good performance obtained as a wild card in Moto11 in Jerez two weeks ago, when Ferrari achieved a good fifteenth place, will certainly give morale to rider number 2.
Alessio Finello is also looking for redemption in the French GP, after a good weekend in Portimao but with the Top 10 still eluding the Italian rider. Last year at Le Mans, Finello achieved a good ninth position in the race, a good omen for the upcoming weekend.
The French GP of MotoE begins on Friday, with two free practice sessions and a qualifying one, in Q1 and Q2 style, the latter starting from 17:05 pm local time. The races will take place on Saturday at 12.15:16.10 pm and XNUMX pm local time.
Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE rider)
“We start again with MotoE, we are ready! Between the tests and the Moto2 race in Jerez I can say that I did really good training, which will help us a lot this weekend. I'm super motivated and the desire for redemption is huge: in Portimao we had some difficulties, now I want to get back on the bike, have fun and go fast, this is the priority. Let's start again from Le Mans, a circuit that I have always liked a lot: we have wonderful memories from last year, but this 2024 is a completely different story, still to be written. Let's start with a good motivation, I like the track. We should be ready for all conditions, we know that the weather here is always a jolly. We have a good starting set-up from last year, fortunately the bike hasn't changed too much, we just need to understand how these tires will adapt to this track, but there is the time needed to do that. We are super focused and motivated!"
Alessio Finello (Felo Gresini MotoE rider)
“Finally we're back on track! It's been a long wait since Portimao, I thought these weeks would have gone by quicker. On the other hand, however, they gave me the opportunity to prepare in the best way possible for Le Mans: here in my opinion it will be completely different from Portimao. I feel ready, in shape: the goal will be to stay in the top ten. I trained a lot, even on track, I worked well and I arrive with positive feelings: now we'll try to materialize them during the weekend. The mood is high, we can't wait to see each other again with the guys from the team, with whom we have always been in touch during this break, I can't wait to start again!"
