MotoE 2022 - The debut on the Mugello circuit for the Italian GP

MotoE 2022 Mugello debut

MotoE 2022 - The riders of the MotoE World Cup face the Italian GP for the first time on the famous Mugello circuit. Two races are scheduled on the Tuscan circuit over the weekend. Dominique Aegerter leads the general classification ahead of Eric Granado and Mattia Casadei.

This weekend the MotoE World Cup arrives at the Mugello International Circuit to face the iconic Tuscan circuit. The circuit is one of the most loved by fans and riders who will face the Mugello track for the first time ever with the MotoE.
It's Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE) to lead the standings after the podium and the first victory of the season in France. The Swiss rider precedes Eric Granado (LCR E-Team), who scored a double victory at Jerez before a difficult weekend in France.

Mattia Casadei (Pons Racing 40) is third in the standings and comes from a great weekend at Le Mans, where he took his first victory in the MotoGP electric class. In fourth place in the standings we find the winner of the World Cup 2019 Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE), eager to fight for the podium and victory. Both know the track and the sensations of the Home GP well, having already raced several times at Mugello in other categories.
Fifth in the Top5 of the general classification is Hikari Okubo. The Japanese rider took his first podium in MotoE in France but this weekend he will have to face a track he does not know and on which he has never raced.

Kevin Zannoni (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse), on the other hand, has not yet reached the podium, but has shown incredible speed at Le Mans. The Italian was in the front row in France and fought for victory until the last corner in Race 1, before falling, and in Race 2 he lost third place by only six thousandths, overtaked at the last corner by Niccolo Canepa (WithU GRT RNF MotoE). Canepa himself could be one of the protagonists of the Italian GP, thanks to his long experience at Mugello. Canepa arrives at this race after taking his first MotoE podium in Le Mans with a good comeback race.

The riders of the MotoE and the fans are waiting for news on two protagonists of the championship: Bradley Smith and Jordi Torres. The Brit is recovering from the accident at the 24h of Le Mans, but could return to wearing the colors of the WithU GRT RNF MotoE team this weekend at Mugello if he receives the ok from the doctors. Even the winner of the MotoE 2020 and 2021 Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40) hopes to be able to take part in the Italian GP after the accident at the start of Race 1 at Le Mans in which he sustained a fractured left fibula.

Among the riders looking for redemption in Italy after a weekend in charoscuro at Le Mans there are certainly Miquel Pons and Hector Garzò. Both were among the fastest in the first round of the season at Jerez but in France they were not among the protagonists of the two races.
Among the rookies in MotoE we will see if Alex Escrig will be able to continue his sequence of good races which at the moment have brought him 27 points and ninth place in the standings. Eyes also focused on Marc Alcoba, often fast but just as often on the ground, and on Alessio Finello, who knows the home circuit well.
