Race 1 of the MotoE of the Catalan GP in Barcelona – This weekend, the seventh round of the 2023 season of the MotoE on the circuit of Barcelona. Andrea Mantovani (RNF MotoE team) won Race 1 ahead of Mattia Casadei (HP Pons Los40) and Hector Garzò (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE). Casadei and Torres had a great race right up to the last lap, when the Spaniard went wide at turn 1. A seventh place for Torres which limits the damage in the general standings. Matteo Ferrari finished in fourth place, a good result for the standings despite a difficult race and a comeback.

At the start, Torres was the faster from the grid, together with Casadei, who immediately took second place behind the championship leader. Behind them, a contact between Mantovani and Zannoni forced the latter to go wide, finding himself fifteenth. It was a difficult start for Eric Grando, who went wide in the first corner and had to start a comeback from the last position.
In the first two laps Torres tried to create a gap but Casadei managed the pace of his rival, while behind the first two Garzò and Mantovani started a thrilling fight.
Halfway through the race, Torres' escape attempt vanished, with Casadei, Mantovani and Garzò in the slipstream behind the Aspar team rider. A second and a half behind the leading group, Spinelli, Ferrari and Pons overtook each other several times to take fifth place and attempt to catch up on the first four.

With three laps to go, Casadei attacked Torres at turn 10, but the Spaniard responded to the Italian's overtaking at the corner of the finish straight. Same scene one lap later but this time, Casadei brakes harder; Torres tries to overtake anyway but is unable to close the line and has to widen out of the track. The Spaniard thus lost contact with the lead of the race and found himself in eighth position.
The last lap started with Casadei in the lead followed by Mantovani and Garzò, while Ferrari and Spinelli were 1 second behind. At turn 10 Mantovani decided to attack Casadei for the win. The RNF MotoE team rider completed the overtaking successfully, crossing the finish line first. For him, this was the second victory of the season, after that of Race 1 at Mugello.
Casadei decided not to risk it and to bring home 20 very important points for the championship. The Sito Pons rider thus moved to just 4 points behind Torres who finished the race in seventh position. On the third step of the podium Hector Garzò, with Ferrari and Spinelli who closed the Top 5.
Crash without consequences for Tito Rabat.
