In the Catalan GP of MotoE in Barcelona, Mattia Casadei takes the victory in Race 2 and takes the top of the World Championship standings. The Pons Racing team rider precedes Mantovani and Spinelli at the finish line. Torres crashes while leading the race.

Race 2 of the MotoE of the Catalan GP in Barcelona – This weekend, it's time for the seventh round of the 2023 season of the MotoE at the Barcelona circuit.
Mattia Casadei (HP Pons Los40) won Race 2 ahead of Andrea Mantovani (RNF MotoE team) and Nicholas Spinelli (HP Pons Los40). Casadei, Torres and Mantovani had a great battle at the head of the race until two laps from the end when the Spanish rider crashed at turn 5 while he was first. For Torres it's a very heavy zero for the championship standings. Now Casadei is first, followed by Torres and Ferrari with only the two Misano races left to finish the 2023 season of the MotoE.

Casadei was the fastest to start from the front row, immediately taking the lead ahead of Mantovani, Torres, Garzò and Ferrari. A few turns and Torres immediately attacks Mantovani, moving into second position behind Casadei. In the first two laps, the positions of the first three did not change, gaining a few tenths on Garzò and Ferrari, engaged in a series of overtaking and counter-overtaking for fourth place.
On the third lap Torres starts the fight for the race lead. At turn 1 he attacks and passes Casadei, taking the lead. Casadei doesn't fit and on the next lap passes Torres at the same point. Garzò meanwhile closes the gap with the first three, also bringing Ferrari, Spinelli and Pons with him. Now the leading group is made up of seven riders.
On the fifth lap, Torres repeats the attack on Casadei at turn 1 and passes him, Mantovani takes advantage of the space between the two, thus moving up to second position. The Italian also tries to attack Torres at turn 10 but the Spaniard resists and remains at the head of the group with two laps to go.

Just when the Aspar team rider seemed destined for victory, a twist occurs. The rear of the Spaniard's Ducati V21L loses grip entering turn 5, taking him wide into the gravel. Torres crashes and retires. Meanwhile, behind him is Garzò who passes both Mantovani and Casadei and takes the lead of the race.
The final lap begins with Garzò first but when braking into turn 1 Casadei overtakes both Mantovani and Garzò and takes the lead of the race. Mantovani follows him and tries to attack him at 10 but Casadei brakes hard and keeps the winner of Race 1 behind him. The order of arrival seems decided but before the checkered flag there is time for the masterclass overtaking by Spinelli who attacks Garzò for third place and overtakes at the last corner, like Rossi on Lorenzo in 2009.
The first three at the finish line are: Mattia Casadei, Andrea Mantovani and Nicholas Spinelli. In the general classification, Casadei takes the lead with 219 points ahead of Torres (198) and Ferrari (197 points).
