First steps for the Openbank Aspar team with Marc Alcoba and Maria Herrera in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup 2022. The Spanish duo completes the first pre-season test at the Jerez - Ángel Nieto circuit by completing over 200 laps in different track conditions.
The teams of the MotoE World Cup had a first roll-out at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto last week. These first three days of testing took place in highly changeable weather conditions. The sessions on the first day took place on a dry track while the second day was characterized by rain. In the morning session of the third day only a few riders entered the track due to the cold and damp track. Only in the afternoon the track become dry and fast again to continue testing.
The Openbank Aspar Team lines up for the 2022 season, María Herrera, in her fourth participation in MotoE, and Marc Alcoba, at his debut. Alcoba arrives as a rookie in the electric category of the World Championship, which this year celebrates its fourth season, and was one of the riders who completed the most laps of the Andalusian track, 112 laps. The adaptation started well for the Catalan rider, second among the rookies and thirteenth in the overall standings, 1,5 seconds from the best laptime of the Swiss Dominique Aegerter.
His teammate, María Herrera, was the rider who did most laps in the three days of testing, 115 laps. Herrera set her best lap in the last session of the test, 1:50.690, two seconds from Aegerter's time and three seconds from the record of the circuit. The riders of the Aspar team were able to test the new features of the bike by Energica in Jerez before the start of the new season, which will take place at the end of April on the same track. Before this, a further test is scheduled from 11th to 13th April, again at the Jerez circuit.

María Herrera
“These days have been positive. It had been a long time since I had ridden so often on a main circuit. I am gaining confidence on the bike after not being able to ride in the winter. Yesterday in the rain I felt pretty good, I ran without taking risks. This test helped us to get back into the rhythm, little by little we are getting there. We still have three days of testing ahead of us before the first Grand Prix.”
Marc Alcoba
“We had an intense work plan, doing a lot of laps and gathering a lot of information on a bike that I didn't know, and we took the opportunity to test some things that will allow us to make progress. It was a very positive test, I'm very happy with the adaptation I'm having with the bike and the team's work these days.”
