After the emotions in Portimao, MotoE is ready to return on track this weekend for the 2024 French GP, at Le Mans. Jordi Torres will look to emulate the results achieved in last year's French Grand Prix, while Zannoni will aim for his first championship triumph.
Almost two months after the opening grand prix of the 2024 season, in Portugal, the MotoE World Championship heads to Le Mans for the French GP, the second round of the year.
The Openbank Aspar Team, in the words of its riders, arrives eager to repeat the results achieved in last year's French Grand Prix. Jordi Torres took the first victory of the 2023 season here, inaugurating the Openbank Aspar Team's palmarès, and concluded the grand prix with a second place in the second race. This year, Torres began the season with a retirement after an accident with Alessandro Zaccone and a fifth place in Portimao, which left him in eleventh place in the World Championship. For this weekend, the Openbank Aspar Team rider will aim to emulate what he achieved in 2023 on a circuit that he likes and where he has always felt comfortable.
His teammate, Kevin Zannoni, aims to achieve his first MotoE victory here. The Italian made his debut with Team Openbank Aspar at the Portuguese Grand Prix and had a very positive weekend, finishing fifth in the first race and seventh in the second. In France, Zannoni will aim to take a step forward and fight for the top positions on a circuit where he has already come close to victory in 2022. The Openbank Aspar Team rider is fifth in the World Championship, just five points from third-classified Nicholas Spinelli.
The French GP of MotoE begins on Friday, with two free practice sessions and a qualifying one, in Q1 and Q2 style, the latter starting from 17:05 pm local time. The races will take place on Saturday at 12.15:16.10 pm and XNUMX pm local time.
Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team rider)
“I am looking forward to getting back on the bike because it has been a long time since the first grand prix. During these weeks I have been working hard to arrive in the best possible conditions to the French GP. Le Mans is a circuit that I really like, it is one of my favourite tracks and I am very happy to be back there. Qualifying well and getting a good starting position will be very important. I hope to be able to fight for the front positions."
Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team rider)
“Le Mans is a very technical and complicated circuit, but last year we had a very good feeling there, and I achieved the first victory of the season. I know what it takes to go fast, and the objective will be to try to be at the front since the beginning. I think that in difficult situations, with changing weather conditions and less tests before the race, I can shine more, and I am confident I can do that in France."
