MotoE 2023: numbers and statistics – The riders of the MotoE World Championship arrive at the British GP after having already completed eight races in the four rounds held at Le Mans, Mugello, Sachsenring and Assen. Here is a summary, with some sports statistics, relevant facts and curiosities.

MotoE 2023: numbers and statistics – The start of 2023 was exciting, record-breaking and full of historic moments for the MotoGP electric class. Half of the sixteen races scheduled for 2023 were completed and showed interesting numbers. Before we get back into action for the Monster Energy British Grand Prix at the long Silverstone circuit to kick off the second half of the season, let's take a look at the first eight races of the year.

After eight races, the leader of the MotoE is Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar team), ahead of Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) and the Dynavolt Intact GP team duo: Hector Garzò and Randy Krummenacher. The Spanish rider of the Aspar team, with two victories, three second places and a third place conquered so far, has collected 144 points, and reached the podium in six out of eight races. In the middle of the season, Torres has a pace very similar to that of the winner of the MotoE 2022, Dominique Aegerter (18 points per race for the Spanish, 18.9 for the Swiss).
With 136 points, three victories, one second place and two third places, Matteo Ferrari follows the championship leader eight points behind. Even for Ferrari, the pace in 2023 is compatible with winning the title, with 17 points per race, the highest value for the Italian rider since he debut in MotoE, in 2019. In the head-to-head between the two riders, Torres won the opening race at Le Mans and Race 1 at Sachsenring, while Ferrari won Race 2 at Le Mans and both races at Assen.

At the moment, these two riders seem to be the only ones able to contend for the 2023 MotoE championship title. Behind them, Garzò and Krummenacher are tied on 98 points, 46 points less than Torres. Such a gap seems difficult to recover before the end of the season, but it still cannot be ruled out, given that there are still 200 points up for grabs. In 2023, Garzò won his first race in MotoE, at the Sachsenring, in addition he obtained a second and a third place, while Krummenacher has so far conquered a second and two third places. Their points average, equal to 12.2 points per race, is currently too low to think of fighting for the 2023 title; you need at least 16 points per race. The same assessment also applies to Mattia Casadei (Pons Racing 40), currently fifth in the standings with 89 points and an average of 11.1 points per race. In 2023, Casadei has so far achieved one second place and two third places.
Granado, one of the favorites at the beginning of the season, is sixth in the standings in the middle of the championship with 71 points and one victory, in Race 2 at Mugello. The Brazilian rider of the LCR team was unable to participate in the first two races of the season due to an injury sustained during the WSBK race in Barcelona. Granado, therefore, has only six races to his credit and an average points score of 11.8.
Here is the progression in the general standings of the Top 5 riders after eight races.

The moments of MotoE 2023

2023 was the year of firsts for many teams and riders. In the French GP, Ferrari scored its first win outside Italy (the previous ones had been one at Mugello and six at Misano). Also at Le Mans, Torres returned to the top step of the podium from Race 1 of the 2021 San Marino GP, giving Team Openbank Aspar their first win and first-ever podium in MotoE. The first pole for the Spanish team was instead taken by Fermin Aldeguer in 2021 at the Red Bull Ring.
At the Italian GP at Mugello was the turn of Andrea Mantovani and the RNF team MotoE to get their first win in MotoE. At Mugello, Eric Granado and the LCR E-Team also scored their first win of 2023 with the new Ducati V21L. In the following round, at Sachsenring, it was Hector Garzò's turn to win his first race in MotoE after five podium finishes in three seasons in the MotoGP electric series.

With the last two victories at Assen, Ferrari has brought his total MotoE career wins to ten and now stands behind Granado, the most victorious rider in MotoE with 11 hits. Among the riders participating in the 2023 season, none have achieved a similar number of victories to Granado and Ferrari; Torres, the winner of two editions of MotoE, has won only four races so far. Following, we find Casadei with two successes and, with one victory each, Zaccone, Pons, Mantovani and Garzò.
So far, eight riders, almost half of the MotoE line-up, have reached the podium in at least one race: Ferrari (6), Torres (6), Garzo (3), Casadei (3), Krummenacher (3), Mantovani (1), Manfredi (1) and Granado (1). Torres and Garzò both scored double podium finishes in round one (French GP), Ferrari did it in round two (Italian GP), and Torres did it again in round three (German GP). In the fourth round (Dutch GP), Torres and Ferrari both took another double podium at Assen. Only one rider has achieved a "hat-trick" so far (win, pole, fastest lap): Ferrari at Le Mans. The Gresini team rider also holds another record for the 2023 season: he was the only one to get two victories in the same round in the Dutch GP.

Moving on to the teams, in 2023, the Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE team, Felo Gresini MotoE and the Openbank Aspar team achieved six podiums each. Behind them, we find the Pons Racing 40 team with three podiums and RNF MotoE, LCR E-Team, and Sic58 Squadra Corse with one podium each.
Overall, in five seasons, the Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE team achieved 24 podiums, five more than the Felo Gresini MotoE team (19) and six more than the Pons Racing 40 team (18 podiums), while the LCR E-Team has 16 podiums.

The performance of the new MotoE, the Ducati V21L

In the first two rounds of 2023, at Le Mans and Mugello, Ferrari beat the previous lap record by more than three seconds. A new track record was also set at the Sachsenring. Furthermore, in both races of the French GP, all the participants were faster than the previous lap record of the MotoE.
Already at the beginning of the season, in the first test of 2023, in March, Granado had been half a second faster than the official record of the MotoE in Jerez. A month later, in the second test, Granado was again the fastest, lowering the official MotoE lap record in Barcelona by three seconds.
Regarding the top speed, the MotoE 2023 set his new record at Mugello: at the end of the main straight, Jordi Torres reached a speed of 281,9 km/h.
For reliability, in the four rounds held so far, the 18 Ducati V21Ls involved in the MotoE World Championship have raced a total of more than 11.000 km without significant breakdowns.
