Maria Herrera in Top 10 in Jerez, crash for Fermin Aldeguer

The Spanish rider of the Openbank Aspar Team starts the season with a ninth position while Fermín Aldeguer's crashes at the debut race.

María Herrera starts the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup season with a ninth position on the Jerez - Ángel Nieto circuit. The Openbank Aspar Team rider started from the third row thanks to her excellent performance in the EPole, and, in the race, she kept her pace confirming the ninth final position. Herrera suffered from mid-race problems in her right forearm that prevented her from giving her all, but despite this, she finished just eleven seconds behind the winner. To solve her arm pump problem, Maria Herrera will undergo surgery on Thursday to be ready for the Le Mans race in ten days.
His team-mate, Fermín Aldeguer, was unable to finish the race due to the clash with Lukas Tulovic during the second lap. Thanks to a surprising EPole, Aldeguer, started from the front row of the grid, but was unable to transform that result into an equally good one in the race. At the time of the crash, the Openbank Aspar Team rider was in the Top 5 and seemed comfortable fighting with the leaders.
Next round in two weeks on the French track at Le Mans for the French GP.

María Herrera
“I am happy because in the preseason tests we worked well, but I lacked the ability to go fast riding alone. We have achieved it this weekend, in the EPole we have seen that the work is paying off. In the race I knew that I could go out and beat the group. I have had problems with my forearm and I couldn’t stand it more than four laps. That has prevented me from following them, but I have the potential and I will fight to give my best.”

Fermín Aldeguer
“The crash was a shame. Although at the beginning I have lost some places, I was confident that I could catch up with the riders in front. When I started to overtake, another rider touched me and we crashed. The positive is that I'm OK and that at Le Mans we will continue to fight."
