Through its Aruba Cloud business unit, the Aruba company enters the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship 2024. The riders who will debut the Aruba Cloud MotoE Teams in the MotoGP electric class are Chaz Davies and Armando Pontone. In two weeks, the first test on the Portimao circuit.
The Aruba Cloud MotoE Team is the third new team in the MotoE World Championship 2024. After the announcement of MT Helmets Msi and Forward Racing, the time has come for Aruba Cloud MotoE to present the project and its riders. But let's go in order. First of all, we must bear in mind that the Aruba Racing team, which is participating in the WSBK world championship and the Aruba Cloud team, which will be at the start of the MotoE World Championship, are two different entities. The world champion team in the Superbike World Championship has Aruba, the leading Italian cloud provider in data centre services, web hosting, email, PEC and domain registration, as its Title Sponsor, while the MotoE project borns from Aruba Cloud, Aruba's business unit for cloud services, which will be involved as manager and Title Sponsor of the MotoE team.
To bring the Ducati V21L from the Aruba Cloud team MotoE they will be Chaz Davies and Armando Pontone. The first, after finishing his Superbike adventure in 2021, joined the team Ducati ERC in the Endurance World Championship, while at the same time taking on the role of coach for the Aruba riders in Superbike and Supersport, the latter is the winner of the title of Italian Champion of the National Trophy SS600 in 2021. Those who follow the MotoE, you will remember having already seen Chaz Davies riding the Ducati V21L, at Mugello, during a test start together with Michele Pirro, riding the Ducati MotoGP.
Stefano Cecconi, CEO of Aruba, will also be the Team Principal of the team involved in MotoE: “The Aruba Cloud MotoE Team represents the synergy of two worlds - technology and sport - united by their commitment to sustainable innovation. The cloud represents the future of IT just as electric vehicles and MotoE are the future of the motorsport sector” – commented Cecconi – “MotoE will act for us as a technological outpost where we can experiment and develop edge cloud technologies. Similar to electric mobility, in the near future, these technologies may be the solution to improve the performance and efficiency of existing services, as well as aiding the development of new ones"
In the first press release of the new team we read that: “There are several challenges that unite cloud technologies and the motor industry. First and foremost, sustainability, a key topic associated for cloud technologies as businesses look for more innovative and environmentally friendly products. The virtualisation of computational resources that underlies cloud computing, for example, allows for a reduction in the use of servers, and therefore a reduction in emissions or, when using clean energy, saving of natural resources. Furthermore, the continuous search for performance optimisation also unites the two industries. Cloud technologies are crucial across all spheres, both at a business level but also in everyday life. For this reason, cloud developers are always looking to save energy through increasing the efficiency of infastructure and optimising the use of resources. Similarly, the MotoE team is a starting point from where Ducati can experiment and develop technologies that could, in the future, be used on road motorbikes and offer customers increasingly sustainable and clean vehicles."
Chaz Davies (Aruba Cloud MotoE)
“First of all, I would like to thank Stefano Cecconi and Aruba for the trust they have placed in me by embarking on this new adventure. Our long relationship has also developed in many different ways, first on the track with Superbike, then in the role of riders' coach during the last two fantastic seasons. 2024 will be my tenth year of working with Aruba which fills me with pride. I am extremely excited for this new chapter, which has only been increased since having already had the chance to ride the Ducati V21L. I’ve certainly had a lot of fun riding this innovative bike and look forward to now having the chance to compete with other riders, which is why I didn't think twice about accepting the Aruba Cloud MotoE team’s proposal. It's with great enthusiasm that I return to the track"
Armando Pontone (Aruba Cloud MotoE)
“I am really excited to have signed this agreement and would like to take this opportunity to thank Aruba and everyone involved in this project. Racing for the Aruba Cloud MotoE Team is a great honour for me. Becoming a MotoE rider is a dream come true: ever since I was a child I dreamt of racing in the MotoGP, and I look forward to having the opportunity to return, riding a Ducati V21L. It is a wish finally fulfilled after so many sacrifices. I want to thank my family, all the sponsors, and those who have always supported me even in the most difficult moments. I can't wait to start, I'm ready to give my all, together with the team."
The team's official presentation will be held on March 7th at the Aruba Auditorium within the setting of the Global Cloud Data Center in Ponte San Pietro (BG). In the meantime, Davies and Pontone will have the opportunity to test the Ducati V21L of the Aruba Cloud team during the three days of testing scheduled on the Portimao circuit from 21 to 23 February.
