Motor brake

An essential element for any bike, regardless of whether it is a Petrol Bike or an Electric Bike, are the electronic controls.
The main areas where teams can intervene in controlling the MotoE are: the motor map (2 set), the accelerator curve, the main engine brake (3 set) and the additional engine brake. The traction control is not present. The new most important element is the additional motor brake operated by the push-button panel positioned on the left half-handlebar (black button).

Its origin comes from the idea of Energica to give riders the opportunity to set the main motor brake at an average level and, if necessary, having some more motor brake from the additional one. When this second motor brake is used together with the main one, it is possible to achieve performance similar to that of a SBK. MotoE riders can rely on two motor brakes in addition to the braking system supplied by Brembo (see the details of the braking system). The MotoE bike does not have a gearbox, but it is possible to set the behaviour of the motor brake by various maps. The same bike can be adapted to a driver who wants a lot of motor brake and another that wants a bike like a 2T.

Related to the engine brake, there is another characteristic of the braking of the MotoE: the regenerative capacity. The motor and battery are capable of recovering some of the braking energy. The more engine brakes, the more energy is regenerated and stored into the battery. This last parameter is continuously recorded by the bike's data acquisition system and analyzed by the teams when the rider returns to the pits. (to know how the data acquisition system of the MotoE click , promising).
