MotoE 2023: the riders of the MotoE World Championship arrive at the Austrian GP after having already competed in ten races in the five rounds held at Le Mans, Mugello, Sachsenring, Assen and Silverstone. Torres is still the championship leader, with a 15-point lead over Ferrari.

The MotoE is ready to face the Red Bull Ring, the sixth round of the 2023 season of the MotoGP electric class. Heading into summer break, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) was the rider on a roll. But after two wet races at Silverstone and two new winners this season – making it an impressive seven in total – it’s Ferrari on the back foot looking to hit back as Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team) enjoys little bit more breathing space at the top.
Torres’ lead is now 15 points, and he got it thanks to that classic consistency. By no means conservative consistency, however, as he fought for the podium in both races and only missed out on the rostrum in Race 2 thanks to a truly spectacular attack from Nicholas Spinelli (HP Pons Los40) on the last lap. On Spinelli’s part, he secured his first podium.

At Silverstone, the big mover was Mattia Casadei (HP Pons Los40), up into third overall after that Race 2 win. He’s a little distance behind Ferrari with a deficit of 29 points, but with 50 on offer every weekend, everything can change quickly. Randy Krummenacher (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE), meanwhile, had moved up into that P1 after his first MotoE victory in Race 2, but a domino effect crash early in Race XNUMX, for which Ferrari was penalised with a Long Lap, sees him end Round XNUMX a point off Casadei and lose that chance to capitalise.
Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) did capitalise, however, and has moved up to only 15 points off Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE) as they sit fifth and sixth. Granado’s first double podium of the season put him back on the box for the first time since that win in Mugello, and from here on out he’ll be aiming for more of that as a minimum. He did the double at the Red Bull Ring last year, from pole, and that could make it even more interesting at the top as the Brazilian pushes to move up in the standings after missing the first part of the season through injury.
Luca Salvadori will not be at the start of the two races MotoE at the Red Bull Ring, in his place on the Ducati V21L of the Prettl Pramac MotoE team there will be the Spaniard Oscar Gutiérrez.
Here is the progression in the overall standings of the Top 5 riders after ten races.

The moments of MotoE 2023

2023 was the year of firsts for many teams and riders. In the French GP, Ferrari scored its first win outside Italy (the previous ones had been one at Mugello and six at Misano). Also at Le Mans, Torres returned to the top step of the podium from Race 1 of the 2021 San Marino GP, giving Team Openbank Aspar their first win and first-ever podium in MotoE. The first pole for the Spanish team was instead taken by Fermin Aldeguer in 2021 at the Red Bull Ring.
At the Italian GP at Mugello was the turn of Andrea Mantovani and the RNF team MotoE to get their first win in MotoE. At Mugello, Eric Granado and the LCR E-Team also scored their first win of 2023 with the new Ducati V21L. In the following round, at Sachsenring, it was Hector Garzò's turn to win his first race in MotoE after five podium finishes in three seasons in the MotoGP electric series.
The Grand Prix at Silverstone saw two new riders on the top step of the podium for the first time in 2023: Mattia Casadei and Randy Krummenacher. For the Italian, it was the third victory in his MotoE career, while for the Swiss, it was the first-ever victory in the MotoGP electric class.

With the last two victories at Assen, Ferrari has brought his total career MotoE wins to ten and now stands behind Granado, the most victorious rider in MotoE with 11 hits. Among the riders participating in the 2023 season, none have achieved a similar number of victories to Granado and Ferrari; Torres, winner of two editions of MotoE, has won only four races so far. Following we find Casadei with three successes, and, with one victory each, Zaccone, Pons, Mantovani, Krummenacher and Garzò.
So far, nine riders, half of the MotoE line-up, have reached the podium in at least one race: Ferrari (6), Torres (6), Casadei (4), Krummenacher (4), Garzo (3), Granado (3), Manfredi (2), Mantovani (1), and Spinelli (1).
