Mattia Casadei misses the second victory in MotoE in the Austrian GP, falling two corners from the finish line. For his teammate, Jordi Torres, two positive races on the road to recovery after his injury in the Le Mans race.
For Mattia Casadei, the Austrian GP could be the time for the second career victory in MotoE. Unfortunately, a crash with two corners to go in race 1 cost the Pons Racing 40 rider the top step of the podium. Casadei had had an impeccable race up to that point, leading the race from the first corner and winning the duel with Eric Granado. It seemed made for a new victory after the one at Le Mans, but a crash in the first of the two right-handers curve before the finish forced Casadei to retire. Race 2 had started again with Casadei in the front until halfway through the race, when the comeback of Granado, Pons and Aegerter forced Casadei into fourth position.
For Jordi Torres, the Austrian GP represented a new step towards a complete recovery after the Le Mans incident in which the two-time champion of the MotoE had suffered a fracture of the fibula.
In both Austrian races the Spaniard finished in the Top 10.

“On Friday everything started well. It was true that the new chicane was a bit difficult and a bit dangerous on the first lap. I am happy to have conquered a new front row because we worked well with the team and the second position is proof of that.
Regarding the first race, I am really sorry that I crashed with two corners to go. We were doing a great job and above all I want to apologize to the team because the victory was ours on Saturday.
Regarding race 2, I am not completely satisfied with fourth place, because I think I could have got on the podium, but after the crash in race 1 I didn't want to make mistakes anymore. I could have done more on the last lap but everyone was going very fast. I thank the team for their excellent work and now is the time to think about the double race at Misano where we will end the season.”

Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40)
“Friday day of ups and downs. In the morning we had a good feeling in the wet, then in the afternoon, in the dry, I missed the decision to do a good lap. I'm still recovering from injury and can't give 100%.
On Saturday we finished race 1 in the eighth position after recovering some positions. The truth is that this race helped us a lot to see where we went wrong and what to correct. We were in the chasing group for the whole race but I had no more weapons to try something more.
Unfortunately, we didn't get a good result on Sunday, but I have to say it wasn't a bad race. From the start I had rear brake problems and felt like I was locking the wheel at any moment. After 2 or 3 laps, seeing that nothing serious happened, I started to push hard and I did the second best lap of the last lap, so the summary was that we did an uphill race; shame about the brake problem. Now let's think about Misano and aim to do better ”.
