Hikari Okubo completed the fifth round of the FIM MotoE World Cup in Austria, taking fourth place in race one and seventh place in race 2.
The rider of the Avant Ajo MotoE team suffered the qualifying once again, but in the race he was the author of two good comebacks. Especially in race 1, Okubo recovered eight positions, finishing the race fourth, just off the podium. Sunday's goal was to finish the race again in the Top 5, but a mistake in the first laps made him lose precious seconds. In the end, the Japanese rider finished the race in seventh position.
Okubo is now sixth in the overall standings with 79,5 points before the season finale of the FIM MotoE World Cup to be held in Misano, from 2 to 4 September.

“The first day I didn't have any bad feelings. The conditions in FP1 and FP2 were very different, but even then we were fast. I fought to qualify for Q2, but it wasn't possible to reach it.
Saturday was not a bad race. I tried to catch up with the leading group to fight for the podium, but I was taking too many risks. I am happy with the result and we have earned some good points.
In race two I still recovered positions compared to the starting grid, but I am not completely satisfied even though I struggled to get into the Top 5. I made a mistake in the first laps and this prevented me from reaching the top group. The problem for me is usually the qualifying and I think that if I started further forward, even in the front row, I could get better results. We have some good points for the championship and now is the time to keep progressing.”
