Hector Garzò wins again at the Sachsenring, after the 2023 victory on the German circuit. Also on the podium were Alessandro Zaccone and Nicholas Spinelli. The red flag for Eric Granado's crash reduces the race to just five laps.
Hector Garzò wins race 1 of the German GP of the MotoE 2024 at the Sachsenring – This weekend, the MotoE is at the Sachsenring for the German GP, the sixth round of the 2024 season. The first of the two scheduled races provided many twists and returned an increasingly uncertain fight for the title.
The first two twists come from Friday's qualifying: Casadei has to serve a Long Lap Penalty in Race 1 for the fall under the yellow flag regime and Zannoni who can participate in the race but is sore from the after-effects of yesterday's fall.
At the start, the fastest is Oscar Gutierrez but the Spaniard makes a mistake braking and goes wide; the Spaniard is passed by Zaccone, Garzò and Spinelli. Getting back on track, Gutierrez hits Eric Granado who falls to the ground, sliding across the track with the other riders who manage to avoid him. The race direction displays the red flag to allow the LCR team rider to be rescued. Armando Pontone also falls at the same point.
For causing the accident with Granado, Gutierrez has to serve two Long Lap Penalties in Race 1.
In order not to alter the program of the day's races, Race 1 of the MotoE is reduced from eleven to five laps. The starting grid has 16 riders due to the absences of Granado and Pontone.

At the restart, the fastest to sprint from the starting grid is Oscar Gutierrez but it was immediately clear that the Spaniard's sprint was too quick to be true. In fact, the Axxis-Msi team rider is sanctioned with two more Long Lap Penalties for having anticipated the start. The total number of Long Lap Penalties that Gutierrez must serve in Race 1 thus rises to the grotesque figure of four, almost one for each lap.
But for the rookie of the MotoE, the ordeal of Race 1 is not over yet because, while executing the first Long Lap Penalty, he falls and ends up in the gravel. Meanwhile, Zaccone and Garzò take the lead, followed a short distance away by Spinelli, Torres and Ferrari.
On the second lap, Garzò overtakes Zaccone and increases the pace. Only Zaccone manages to keep up with the pace of the Intact GP team rider, while Spinelli is further behind but, in turn, manages to gain a small advantage over the Torres-Ferrari duo.

Zannoni, sore from yesterday's fall, is seventh while Casadei performs his Long Lap Penalty and returns tenth, behind Finello.
The last lap begins and Garzò is increasingly firmly in the lead, ahead of Zaccone and Spinelli. Behind them, Ferrari overtakes Torres and takes fourth place while Casadei manages to overtake Finello and recover ninth place.
The riders of the MotoE thus reach the finish line, with Garzò winning for the second time at the Sachsenring after the success in 2023. The two riders of the Tech3 team, Zaccone and Spinelli, also get on the podium.
With the success in Race 1, Garzò takes the lead in the general classification with 154 points, ahead of Casadei with 147, Zannoni with 146 and Gutierrez with 137.
Race 2 will start at 16:10 pm local time and will be broadcast free-to-air on the MotoE YouTube channel.
