Hector Garzò returns to the top step of the podium in Assen, one year after his first victory in MotoE at the Sachesenring. Oscar Gutierrez and Jordi Torres were also on the podium while Alessandro Zaccone, second at the finish line, was disqualified.

Hector Garzò wins race 1 of the Dutch GP MotoE 2024 in Assen – This weekend, the MotoE was in Assen for the Dutch GP, the fifth round of the 2024 season. The two races on the Dutch track provided emotions and twists and returned to an increasingly uncertain fight for the title.
Race 1 began with Alessandro Zaccone in pole position with a time a full 1,3 seconds faster than Jordi Torres' 2023 pole. When the lights turned off, Kevin Zannoni started fastest from third position and took the lead at the first corner, followed by Zaccone, Garzò, Spinelli and Granado. But the first real drama of the race occurs behind them, with Andrea Mantovani making a mistake braking at turn one and hitting the championship leader, Mattia Casadei, causing his fall. Mattia Casadei retires while Mantovani resumes the race but will then be sanctioned with two Long Lap Penalties to be served in Race 2.

The race seems like a great opportunity for Kevin Zannoni to regain leadership in the championship but the Italian rider has to deal with a wild Alessandro Zaccone, looking for his first victory of the season, and with Hector Garzò. The first to pass Zannoni is the Tech3 team rider at the chicane before the finish line while on the following lap Garzò overtakes the Aspar team rider number 21. Garzò is also looking for his first victory of the season and attacks Zaccone, taking the lead halfway through the race. Eric Granado catches up behind the first two; the Brazilian passes Zannoni and moves into third position.
Zannoni is also passed by Gutierrez, who attacks Granado and passes him, taking third position with two laps to go. Zannoni takes advantage of the situation and also overtakes Granado who tries to counter-overtake at turn 5 but makes a mistake and hits Zannoni. Both riders end up in the gravel; Granado retires while Zannoni manages to restart but is now last, in the thirteenth position.

While Zannoni's dreams of overtaking in the championship fades away, Alessandro Zaccone takes the lead but, thanks to a beautiful pass on the last lap, Hector Garzò (Dynavolt Intact GP) overtakes him and goes on to win a thrilling Race 1 of the MotoE World Championship in Assen. The rider from Valencia overtakes the Tech3 E-Racing team rider on the outside at the very fast turn 13 to win for the first time in 2024. Alessandro Zaccone had to settle for second position at the checkered flag only to be disqualified for irregular tyre pressure. The second place thus goes to Oscar Gutierrez (Axxis-MSI), who recovered from an eleventh position on the starting grid. Following Zaccone's penalty, Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team) was promoted to the podium in third position
