Fantastic comeback to the podium by Granado in Austria

Eric Granado, one of the favorites to the final win of the MotoE 2021

The Brazilian rider of the One Energy Racing team recovered in five laps from thirteenth to second place in the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring.

After Granado's lucky mistake in yesterday's EPole, in which the Brazilian lost his rear tyre at the exit of turn one but managed to recover the bike and not crash, Eric Granado started the race from thirteenth on the grid.
In the race, the One Energy Racing team rider showed a fantastic comeback by finishing second in Austria, just 8 tenths behind the winner.
After the first lap Granado was already seventh, reaching the fourth position after two more laps. In the final race Granado was the author of an exciting duel for second place with Dominique Aegerter and Fermin Aldeguer. Aldeguer, Aegerter and Granado arrive paired at the braking of turn three on the last lap; Aegerter exits in front but the same repeated at the next corner and this time is Granado who exits in front. At this point Granado gains a few meters of advantage while the fight between Aegerter and Aldeguer is resolved at turn nine when the Swiss attacks the young Spanish rider and passed him without leaving him room for a counterattack.

The overall standings

Eric Granado
“Even after yesterday's EPole result, I never gave up and today I gave it my best shot in the race. From the start I began to overtake riders and the feeling on the bike was very good. I think it was the best I felt the entire weekend. We were able to make a great comeback, achieve the third podium of the season and take 20 points that are especially good for the championship. Now we will work hard to be as much as strong possible for the finale in Misano. There will be two exciting races, I'm sure”.

Johan Stigefelt (Team Director)
“It was a good race for Eric [Granado]. It was great to see him battling on the last lap to finish second. Today's result leaves the championship wide open and we are only 7 points behind the leader, with two races to go. Anything can happen at Misano, so we need to be calm and do our best there, to finish ahead of the championship leader in both races. Today the team and Eric did a great job and we are looking forward to racing at Misano”.
