If an engine brake is not enough, we put two

With the approach of motorcycle races, the curiosity towards the electric motorcycle world championship is increasing. The article dedicated to MotoE the issue of DueRuote this month is a demonstration of this.
You can find some of the topics covered in various posts we have written in recent months (the point of Nicolas Goubert, the Michelin tires for the MotoE); here we want to re-propose some new elements emerged from the article by DueRuote.
The topic that intrigued us the most are the controls of the MotoE, an essential element for any bike, regardless of whether it is a Petrol Bike or an Electric Bike.
The main areas of intervention related to the control of MotoE they are: the engine map (2 set), the accelerator connection curve, the main engine brake (3 set) and the additional engine brake. Traction control is not present. The most important novelty is the additional motor brake controlled by the push-button panel positioned on the left handlebar.

The push-button panel on the left handlebar of the MotoE

Its origin comes from the idea of Energica to give pilots the opportunity to make a medium set-up of the main engine brake and, if necessary, have something more thanks to the additional one. When this second engine brake is used together with the main one, it is possible to achieve performance similar to that of an SBK. In the guide therefore, the pilots of the MotoE can count on two engine brakes in addition to the braking system supplied by Brembo (see the details of the braking system).

Finally we recall another characteristic element of the braking of the MotoE, that is the regenerative capacity. The motor and battery are capable of recovering some of the braking energy. This last parameter is continuously recorded by the bike's data acquisition system to be analyzed by the teams when the rider returns to the pits. (if you want to know how the data acquisition system of the MotoE click , promising).
