The Japanese rider of the Avant Ajo MotoE team ends in ninth position the Catalan Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Hikari Okubo completed another weekend of the MotoE World Cup and gained valuable experience on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Japanese rider finished ninth in his first time on the Catalan track with an electric motorcycle and scored important points in a difficult weekend.
The race was shortened first from 7 to 6 laps, and then suffered a delay at the start due to a problem on the grid on Eric Granado's bike. Okubo made a great start, gaining from 11th to 6th position in the first corner. However, on lap two, Okubo lost several positions and remained at the bottom of the main group, finishing the third race of the 2021 season in ninth position.
Next round on June 27th on the Dutch circuit of Assen.

“At the beginning I had an issue, as I had no power on the opening laps. This made it very tough to overtake the rest of the riders. I think I could have run a similar pace to the group at the front, but today we didn’t have a chance to show that. We have to keep working to understand what happened and solve it for the coming races."
