The starting grid of the MotoE for the Spanish GP race, the first round of the Enel FIM MotoE World Cup 2020, was decided by an exciting battle during EPole.
Saturday started very well for the LCR team, in the free practices that had taken place in the morning; Niccolò finished with an excellent 3rd position and Xavier Simeon was 6th.
During the EPole session both made minor mistakes, which for Canepa caused a disastrous crash at the fast eleven corner of the Angel Nieto circuit, fortunately without physical damage for the rider but with serious damage to the bike.
Simeon closed the qualifying session with the sixth fastest time which will allow him to start the race from the second row of the starting grid. On the contrary, Niccolò Canepa will start from the last row and has to do a comeback race.

Xavier Simeon
“I am a bit disappointed today because I made some mistakes during the qualifying and in MotoE this weekend, the lap times are very tight, so you can’t afford to make any kind of mistakes. I missed a decent chance to be on the front row. Anyway, tomorrow it will be a big fight during the XNUMX laps, we’ll give our maximum and try to fight for the podium".

Niccolò Canepa
“I am really sorry for my team, who did an amazing job in the past couple of days. The thing with the e-pole is that if you make a mistake… it’s hard for them, because I will start last tomorrow after a very big crash. The good thing is that I was going really fast at that moment, I was fighting for the pole and it is a good sign for the future. Unfortunately, like I said, tomorrow I’ll start last, so it is going to be a really tough race because it is really hard to overtake with these bikes. I will try my best and luckily we’ll have a second chance next week."
