Mattia Casadei wins race 1 of the San Marino GP of MotoE in Misano. The 25 points of the victory are not enough for the LCR team rider because Garzò, with the fourth place, becomes the 2024 World Champion of the MotoE. The Valencian rider wins the MotoGP electric class title on his fourth attempt.
Mattia Casadei wins race 1 of the San Marino GP MotoE 2024 Misano. Hector Garzò, with the points of fourth place, wins the World Championship. The 25 points of victory in Race 1 of the San Marino GP were not enough for Mattia Casadei MotoE. Thanks to a controlled race and a fourth-place finish, Hector Garzò wins the title and becomes the World Champion of the MotoE 2024.
It was not an easy race for either of the two riders fighting for the championship. Mattia Casadei had to win to stay in the running for the world championship, Hector Garzò had to first of all not fall and, possibly, gain those thirteen points to close the contest in Race 1 and not play everything in Race 2.
Casadei, starting from pole position, led the first laps, before being overtaken by Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team). Zannoni was the leader of Race 1 until the penultimate lap, when he crashed a few kilometers from the finish line. Casadei, who was following the Aspar team rider by a few tenths, took advantage of Zannoni's fall. Casadei managed the last lap, keeping Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) at a safe distance. The home rider from Hervè Poncharal's team tried to threaten Casadei until the end, to take his first victory in MotoE on his home track, but had to accept second place and postpone his victory ambitions until Race 2.
Third under the checkered flag was Eric Granado (LCR E-Team). Although fourth place was enough for Garzó to win the championship, the Valencian rider attacked Granado on the last lap, in an attempt to climb onto the podium and put a rider between himself and Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team), fifth. If Torres had overtaken Garzó, the championship would have remained open and the final showdown would have been postponed to Race 2, something that Garzó clearly wanted to avoid. Garzó's overtaking of Granado failed, but the Dynavolt Intact GP team rider still held on to fourth place, which guaranteed him the 2024 championship title.
After the first four, these are the riders in the Top 10 at the end of the race: Jordi Torres, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE), Lukas Tulovic (Dynavolt Intact GP), Oscar Gutierrez (Axxis MSi), Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing) and Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward Racing).
Race 2 will start at 16:10 pm local time and will be broadcast free-to-air on the MotoE YouTube channel.
