Andrea Mantovani takes the victory in Race 1 of the 2023 Italian GP of the MotoE. At Mugello, the RNF MotoE team rider conquers his first victory in the category ahead of Matteo Ferrari and Mattia Casadei. First victory in the World Championship also for the RNF team.

Race 1 of the MotoE of the Italian GP – MotoE has a new race winner: his name is Andrea Mantovani, and at Mugello, he took his first victory in the MotoGP electric class. Also, for the RNF team MotoE of Razlan Razali managed by Ramon Forcada this is the first time on the podium.
At the finish line, Mantovani preceded Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) and Mattia Casadei (HP Pons Racing 40) while the Top 5 was completed by the IntactGP team duo formed by Hector Garzò and Randy Krummenacher.
Matteo Ferrari, who started from pole position, immediately put himself in front of the group, entering the San Donato curve first. A trio made up of Ferrari, Casadei and Mantovani immediately formed up in the front, followed just a few tenths away by another group of three riders: Spinelli, Garzò and Krummenacher. On the second lap, Mantovani passes Casadei and gets behind Ferrari, who in the meantime tries to gain advantage setting the new track record in 1'55.727. Mantovani, however, is no slower, and he too lapped in 1'55.7 just 25 thousandths of a second behind Ferrari.
Behind the top five are Eric Granado and Kevin Manfredi, who alternate in sixth position and championship leader, Jordi Torres, in ninth position, fighting with Kevin Zannoni.

Halfway through the race Mantovani attacks and overtakes Ferrari when braking at the San Donato and takes the lead in the race. Behind, Casadei and Ferrari take turns chasing the RNF team rider and manage to overtake him with two laps to go.
This is the moment of Mantovani's masterpiece. Two laps to go, at the end of the main straight, Ferrari and Casadei enter the San Donato side by side, but it is Mantovani, from third position, who passes them at the inside and takes the lead. A manoeuvre like the one in which Petrucci overtook Dovizioso and Marquez in 2019.
Ferrari tries everything on the last lap but Mantovani manages to maintain a couple of tenths of an advantage until the checkered flag. Third at the finish line Mattia Casadei, completing an all-Italian podium.
Torres remains leader of the general standings ahead of Garzò and Ferrari.
The start of Race 2 at 16:10.
