Alessandro Zaccone arrives at the start of the Dutch GP in Assen, fourth of the seven races of the MotoE World Cup, as leader of the standings after having obtained a victory and a podium in the first three races.

Zaccone's debut in MotoE in 2020 it was immediately uphill: crash in tests on the eve of the first race in Jerez in which he suffered the injury to his right knee. For this reason the Italian rider, who at the time was racing for the Gresini team, had to skip the debut race and face the second a few days after surgery on his injured knee. There would have been enough of it, but in the first lap of the race, Zaccone was hit and knocked to the ground by another rider. Recovering a season like this would have been almost impossible for anyone, even if the fifth place in the race at Misano suggested that in a less unlucky season, the results could have been different.

During the winter Zaccone changed team, and joined the OCTO Pramac team on the bike that was of Alex De Angelis in the two previous seasons. The clue that something had changed compared to 2020 had already been seen during the pre-season tests, when, in Jerez, Zaccone was the best Italian rider with the fourth best laptime. That result, with the excellent feeling and the positive relationship with the new team, could already suggest good results for the Italian rider's in his second season in the MotoGP electric class.
Even the good results in the tests, the Jerez race was a great surprise: Zaccone kept Granado's pace until the latter fell, and from then on he kept Dominique Aegerter, one of the league favorites, and the winner of the MotoE 2020, Jordi Torres, behind until the finish line.

MotoE World Cup 2021
The overall standings

Le Mans race, second round of the MotoE, definitively confirmed Zaccone among the protagonists of the MotoE. In the most beautiful and hard-fought race in the short history of MotoE, Zaccone gave up the first position and the victory to Granado at the last corner of the last lap, after a race consistently in the top positions. The comparison with the nightmare weekend on the same track in 2020 further highlight Zaccone's performance this year on the French circuit.
The first two podiums and the fourth place in Barcelona in the third round of the MotoE, brought the Pramac team rider the points to arrive in Assen this weekend as leader of the standings.
The DutchGP starts on Friday with two free practice sessions; Saturday is scheduled for a third free session in the morning and the EPole (qualifying session) at 16:10. The race will start at 15:30 pm on Sunday, at the end of the MotoGP race.
