On the Sachsenring track, Alessandro Zaccone took pole position for the German GP ahead of Oscar Gutierrez and Nicholas Spinelli. For the Tech3 team driver it is the third consecutive pole position MotoE. Eighth place goes to the championship leader, Mattia Casadei who will have to serve a Long Lap Penalty in Race 1.

During the qualifying session of MotoE Several protagonists of the championship crashed at the Sachsenring. At the start of the session Lukas Tulovic was the first to fall, finishing qualifying without any time. Shortly after it was Kevin Zannoni's turn. The Italian driver was hit by his Ducati V21L and will undergo a medical examination before Game 1 to evaluate wrist and knee pain. Zannoni also doesn't have a reference time, so he and Tulovic will start ninth and tenth.
At the end of the session Matteo Ferrari also fell at the last corner, followed by Mattia Casadei to the ground a few seconds later at the same point. Due to the crash with the yellow flag displayed, the one caused by Ferrari's crash, Mattia Casadei will have to serve a Long Lap Penalty in Race 1.
