Alessandro Zaccone dominates Race 2 of the Dutch GP and thus returns to victory in MotoE with a masterful race. Also on the podium were Oscar Gutierrez and Hector Garzò. The general classification is now more compact than ever, with four riders in 11 points.
Alessandro Zaccone wins race 2 of the Dutch GP of MotoE 2024 in Assen
This weekend, the MotoE took place in Assen for the Dutch GP, the fifth round of the 2024 season. The two races on the Dutch track provided emotions and twists and returned to an increasingly uncertain fight for the title. After Hector Garzò's victory in race 1, a few hours later, we saw a masterful performance from Alessandro Zaccone in race 2.
At the start, Kevin Zannoni moved first from the starting grid and took the lead at the first corner, followed by Alessandro Zaccone and Hector Garzò. Rider number 61 of the Tech3 team only needed a few corners to overtake Zannoni and take the lead of the race. Behind the leading riders, the championship leader Mattia Casadei gained the eighth position at the first corner, while Nicholas Spinelli had the first crash in race 2.

During the first lap, a first group of five riders forms at the head of the race, made up of Zaccone, Zannoni, Garzò, Torres and Granado, with Gutierrez and Casadei about a second behind them. However, Granado must serve a Long Lap Penalty for the accident caused in race 1, while Mantovani must serve two, for the accident with Casadei, also in race 1.
During the second lap Zannoni and Garzò fight to gain second position behind Zaccone and it is the latter who has the advantage, imposing his own pace and gaining tenths in every sector compared to the other riders in the leading group.
The Tech3 team rider has an impossible pace for the pursuers; on the third lap Zaccone sets the record time of 1:39.710, but on the following lap he improves further, dropping to 1:39.632. At this point the race leader has a 2.6 second advantage over the rest of the group made up, in order, of: Garzò, Torres, Zannoni, Gutierrez, Tulovic, Pons, Casadei, Mantovani and Roccoli.
Casadei seems not to be in a position to recover but Zannoni is unable to take advantage of it and from mid-race onwards he gradually loses positions and is overtaken first by Torres and then by Gutierrez and Tulovic.
At this point in the race, Zaccone is unreachable, and the scene is taken by Gutierrez, who rides his Ducati V21L impressively and overtakes both Torres and Garzò, thus moving into second position.

On the last pass under the finish line, Zaccone is first and starts a solitary lap towards the checkered flag. Gutierrez is second and gains a small margin over Garzò, who loses contact with the MT-Helmets team rider for overtaking Tulovic in the presence of a yellow flag. Driver number 4 has to let his teammate pass and overtake him again a few corners later. The entire manoeuvre costs Garzò crucial tenths in the fight for second place.
Under the checkered flag, Zaccone, Gutierrez, Garzò, Tulovic, Torres, Zannoni, Pons, Casadei, Ferrari and Roccoli are the Top 10 of Race XNUMX. However, this is not the final Top XNUMX because, on the last lap, Zannoni exceeded the track limits and was demoted by one position.
Alessandro Zaccone thus returns to victory in MotoE after the success in Jerez in 2021 and rises to fifth place in the general classification, 41 points behind Casadei. The LCR team rider is still the championship leader but has only three points ahead of Zannoni, seven over Gutierrez, eleven over Garzò and forty-one over Zaccone. On the Dutch weekend, Zaccone thus achieved a victory, pole position, and Assen track record.
The MotoE now moves to Germany for the two races at the Sachsenring scheduled for next weekend.
