MotoE at Mugello: the LCR E-Team achieves two podiums in the Italian GP

MotoE at Mugello - The LCR E-Team achieves two podiums in the Italian GP. In Race 1, Eric Granado gets on the third step of the podium while in Race 2 it's his teammate Miquel Pons to finish the race in third place.

MotoE at Mugello - The two races of the Italian GP, third round of the MotoE 2022 on the Mugello circuit, once again showed how close the electric category of MotoGP is. In both races, the two riders of the LCR E-Team were among the protagonists of the races of MotoE on the Tuscan circuit. In Race 1 Eric Granado had passed under the checkered flag in fourth position but a technical irregularity was found in the bike of the rider who preceded him. For this reason, the Brazilian rider of the LCR team gained a position and moved to the third step of the podium.
A similar fate went to Miquel Pons in Race 2; the Spaniard gained third place after the race, when the rider who preceded him at the finish was penalized for not respecting the yellow flag.
After the Italian GP, the LCR duo is confirmed in second and fifth place in the overall standings, with Eric Granado at 29 points from the leader of the category and Miquel Pons behind by 54 points.

Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) - 3rd and 8th in the Italian GP of MotoE
“Friday was a busy day for us, it was the first Friday of this year when we managed to do a lot of laps. The conditions were good in FP1 and we were able to improve session after session, getting a better feeling with the bike. However, I didn't feel 100% with the front of the bike and this track requires a great feeling with the front. We qualified 0,002 from the Top 3, in a good position, P.4, the same one I started from in the last two GPs.
In race 1 we were competitive from the start; mixed conditions in the warm-up lap but in the end the race was dry. I managed to get 1st position in the second lap and I was confident and ready to fight for the victory, unfortunately in the last lap I was not on the best line and I lost the podium by 0,007 seconds "even if, after the technical checks, Granado was awarded the podium. “At the beginning of the race I touched another rider and broke the front mudguard, and I think this made me lose speed on the straight, however we were very competitive and I'm happy with the race.
Sunday's was a frustrating result; I expected more. I lost time in the first laps, mainly due to Casadei's crash. In any case, I did my best during the race, I fought hard with Domi (Aegerter), but on the last lap I was not in a good position and I could not reach the leading group. This was the best result we could have achieved today. Now let's focus on the next races, we definitely want to be more competitive and get a better result in Assen.”

Miquel Pons (LCR E-TEAM) - 7th and 3th in the Italian GP of MotoE
“Friday was my first day here at Mugello and it was the first time I raced here. I am quite happy with my FP2 because we finished in 3rd position; in qualifying I made a mistake in my best lap and so we will start from P.8.
Race 1 here at Mugello was not what I expected. We had the potential to do a good performance here on the Italian circuit, but in the early laps I got stuck behind some riders and couldn't get past them. I tried to attack the leading group, but the race was already over.
Race 2 was my second ever race here at Mugello. I'm happy with our performance, we made a great comeback from the start and we fought throughout the race. I reached the last corner in second position, but two riders passed me as I was about to cross the finish line. As I said, I am very satisfied with my performance, and I think I have shown once again that we have the pace for the podium ”. Podium that Pons then conquered after the race, when Alcoba was penalized for not respecting the yellow flag.

The next round of the MotoE World Cup is in a month on the Dutch track in Assen, from 26 to 28 June.
