In Misano the last round of the Aegerter Granado challenge for the MotoE 2022

The San Marino and Riviera di Rimini GP at the Misano World Circuit "Marco Simoncelli" is the grand finale of the fight for the victory of the MotoE 2022 between Dominique Aegerter and Eric Granado.

MotoE 2022, San Marino GP - The last 50 points will decide the winner of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup 2022 in the two races scheduled over the weekend of the San Marino GP and the Rivieri di Rimini at the Misano World Circuit. Two riders remained to contend for the title of champion of the MotoE: Swiss Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Brazilian Eric Granado (LCR E-Team). Aegerter is the leader of the standings, with 194 points, while Granado is at 176,5 points: only 17,5 points separate the two riders who will have to compete for 50 points in the two races scheduled between Saturday and Sunday.
The Swiss rider starts with the advantage of the leadership in the standings thanks to the 194 points conquered in the ten races disputed so far. In the five rounds of the 2022 season before the grand finale in Misano, Aegerter has always been on the podium, with the exception of race 2 in Jerez where he finished fourth. The Dynavolt IntactGP team rider took three wins this season (Le Mans, Mugello and Assen) and nine podiums and at Mugello and Assen, Aegerter started from pole position.
Granado is 17,5 points behind the leader of the standings, despite having won two more races; the Brazilian actually crossed the finish line first in the two races at Jerez, Assen and in the two races at the Red Bull Ring. Despite the higher number of victories, Granado pays for placings in seventh and eighth position at Le Mans and Mugello.

Looking only at the numbers and statistics, the prediction would be in Aegerter's favor: he has a 17,5 points advantage and has greater consistency of performance during the season, and in the previous editions of the GP at Misano he has always been among the fastest riders, getting a victory and a second position.
On the other hand, Granado never achieved good results at Misano: he never finished on the podium and in the first five races on the Italian circuit he achieved sixth position as his best result. From last year, however, his feeling on Misano has changed: in qualifying he achieved second place and would have reached the podium in race 1 if he hadn't exaggerated at the last corner looking for victory with an impossible overtaking on Aegerter. The best result for Granado at Misano is thus a fifth place achieved in race 2 last year. That said, the Brazilian has won the last three races that took place before the San Marino GP and is currently enjoying his best season ever in MotoE.
The tip of the balance in the challenge between Aegerter and Granado will certainly be Matteo Ferrari. The rider of the FELO Gresini MotoE team gained the nickname of “King of Misano” by winning five of the seven races held on the circuit dedicated to Marco Simoncelli. The only two riders who have managed to beat Ferrari at Misano so far are Jordi Torres and Dominique Aegerter. Ferrari is now out of the fight for the 2022 title but is still in the race with Miquel Pons and Mattia Casadei for the third final position of the MotoE World Cup 2022; the three riders are enclosed in 10,5 points.

Behind the top five we find Hikari Okubo (Avant Ajo MotoE) who regained the sixth position in Austria at the expense of Niccolò Canepa (WithU GRT RNF MotoE) who dropped to eighth position also behind Hector Garzò (Tech 3 E-Racing). In ninth position in the standings we find Kevin Zannoni (Ongetta Sic58 Squadra Corse) who races on his home track where last year he obtained his best result of the season (4th). Closing the Top 10 is Alex Escrig (Tech 3 E-Racing) aiming for the title of best rookie in the category. In this special ranking, the 15,5-year-old Spaniard has 19,5 points ahead of Kevin Manfredi (OCTO Pramac MotoE) and XNUMX on Marc Alcoba (Zinia Aspar Team). Among these three riders, we find the two-time World Champion, Jordi Torres, who was injured at the beginning of the season in the Le Mans race and in Misano will try to improve the results obtained so far.
Bradley Smith, who was injured two weeks ago in Austria and was unable to recover in time for the Misano races, will not participate in the San Marino GP; in his place Andrea Mantovani, who has already replaced Smith at Le Mans and Mugello. Alessio Finello recovered from his injury in Austria, and he got the ok from the doctors to race in Misano.
