10 electric scooters to buy with the 2024 incentives for electric two-wheeled vehicles – While electric motorcycles still record very low sales numbers, scooters are spreading much faster. Over 90% of battery-powered two-wheelers that are sold are scooters or mopeds. In particular, the latter represent 20% of all mopeds sold and 10 of the 30 best-selling models are electric.
The reasons are easy to understand. For everyday urban travel, an electric powertrain offers a number of advantages. On the one hand there is instant torque to start from traffic lights, without delays and without the loss of power of traditional scooters. There is also no wasted fuel at idle and there is no heat produced by the engine or exhaust. Even the usual disadvantages of electric are not so important when moving in an urban context. A huge range is not so essential, not when the entire center of the main Italian cities extends over a few km. As a result, batteries can be smaller, lighter, cheaper and easier to recharge. The lack of clutch and gears is not so strange, given that it is also missing on petrol scooters. Furthermore, with charging at home or in the office, the cost of the "fuel" of an electric scooter is a small part of that of an internal combustion engine vehicle.
The electric also adapts perfectly to the daily routine: you recharge during the night, you wake up with a full battery every morning, you go to work and come back, then you connect the plug at home and repeat the next day. There is no need to visit petrol stations and there is no need to use public chargers.
Added to these advantages are the purchase incentives also available this year. For those wishing to purchase an electric scooter in Italy in 2024, they can take advantage of incentives of 30%, up to a maximum of 3.000 euros, for purchase without scrapping, or 40%, up to a maximum of 4.000 euros, for purchase with scrapping of an old vehicle with approval between Euro 0 and Euro 3. In total, a total of 45 million euros will be allocated to incentives for motor vehicles in 2024. The ecobonus is calculated on the percentage of the purchase price of a new electric vehicle, part of the categories L1e, L2e, L3e, L4e, L5e, L6e, L7e.
